Why Northwell Exists
Planning that reflects the realities behind the project.
Northwell was created to support Indigenous-led projects and northern communities with thoughtful planning, practical analysis and clear documentation.
Through our work with Indigenous stakeholders and northern community projects, we have seen the need for consulting support that is both professionally rigorous and grounded in context.
Indigenous-led projects are often not only about financial return. They may involve local employment, economic independence, community services, infrastructure gaps, workforce development, transportation realities, funding requirements, governance considerations and long-term regional impact.
In northern and remote communities, these factors become even more important. Geography, seasonality, logistics, construction costs, labour availability and access to services can directly affect whether a project is viable and how it should be planned.

Leadership
Leadership shaped by experience.
Northwell Consulting is led by Kelin Ainsworth and Mitch Fillman, two Lakehead University graduates whose connection to Thunder Bay and Northern Ontario helped shape the foundation of the firm.
Both Kelin and Mitch studied and spent formative years in a region where Indigenous communities, cultures, histories and relationships are part of daily life.
The firm was built from a recognition that Indigenous-led and northern projects require more than technical documents. They require listening, trust, practical thinking and respect for the people, place and purpose behind the work.
Together, Kelin and Mitch bring experience supporting entrepreneurs, organizations, investors, lenders, immigration professionals and community-based projects with planning, financial modelling, feasibility analysis and strategic documentation.
Northwell’s role is to help clients bring structure and clarity to important projects while recognizing the realities that shape many Indigenous and remote communities.
Meet Kelin Ainsworth, MBA
Co-Founder and Strategy Lead
Strategy, planning and documentation
Kelin Ainsworth is a business strategist, planning specialist and co-founder of Mikel Consulting, where he has helped entrepreneurs, organizations, investors, lenders and community-based projects turn complex ideas into clear, credible and actionable plans.
Northwell Consulting was created from the intersection of Kelin’s professional experience and personal background. Originally from Thunder Bay, Ontario, Kelin grew up in a community where Indigenous friendships, histories and cultures were part of everyday life.
At Northwell, Kelin leads the strategy and planning side of the business. His approach is practical, direct and respectful, focused on producing high-quality work that clients, leadership teams, funders and project partners can actually use.

Meet Mitch Fillman
Co-Founder and Financial Lead
Financial modelling, analysis and implementation
Mitch Fillman is a planning and finance professional with experience supporting entrepreneurs, organizations and project teams with financial analysis, business documentation, feasibility work and decision-ready planning materials.
As a Lakehead University graduate with a connection to Thunder Bay and Northern Ontario, Mitch brings a grounded understanding of the practical realities that shape projects in northern and remote communities.
At Northwell, Mitch supports the financial and analytical side of the business. His work helps clients test assumptions, understand project viability, organize financial information and build planning materials that can support leadership, funding and implementation discussions.
